This glorious L-Shaped Contemporary Cape sits beautifully on a private corner lot atop a sloping hill overlooking Pleasant Bay in Orleans. This special tear down / re-build project was a labor of love for Owners Carole and Walt who now live “happily-ever-after” in their year-round custom-built dream home by REEF.

Carole and Walt’s lot location made this particular house design decision an easier one. There was no question as to how the new house should sit on the lot and how REEF could design a floor plan that would enhance the spectacular views from various areas of the house and illuminate each room with natural sunlight.

Driving up to the house is like finding a shiny diamond in the rough—it sits so gracefully high up on the hill so you can’t possibly miss it or take your eyes off it.

As you look up the hill to see the backside of the house you can’t help but notice its large feature windows and a spacious wrapped deck that travels so eloquently along the entire back of the house from the master bedroom all the way to the other side to wrap around the kitchen Nook. To make sure Carole and Walt would have a view from just about every room in the house, we designed a floor plan that purposely positioned the 1st floor master bedroom, the vaulted living room, and the kitchen and dining Nook at the backside of the house. This makes it the ideal layout for entertaining groups of all sizes both inside and out.

And for those moments when Carole and Walt want to be alone, they can simply open up their gliders off of their first floor master suite and step out onto their deck to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee, read a book, and/or simply admire their view of the harbor in a most peaceful setting.

REEF left no stone unturned to make sure Carole and Walt can go almost anywhere in their house and find a view of Cape Cod Bay while still being able to maintain a sense of privacy and serenity.

Step through the front door into a dramatic front entry with lots of volume—this home feels twice the size of its 3,948 total sq. ft. living area. The house is open and airy with a second floor Loft open to the cathedral Living Room below. Although this Customized Cape home has a contemporary flair with its open floor plan, it also owns a bit of the traditional, cozy charm which makes it a place where family and friends feel comfortable and right at home.
